Fly Fishing Ambassador Programs

The TU Costa 5 Rivers Clubs is made up of over 50 fly fishing clubs from colleges across the country. Sixteen have been chosen as Costa Ambassadors. David Muench from the CU Fly Fishing Club was also a named Ambassador. Muench summarized the activities of his club each semester and recruited new members. The goal of the Costa Ambassador program is to support college club presidents in advancing the sport.

Caleb's love of fly fishing

The world of fly fishing has a lot of ambassador programs and, in particular, the one created by Caleb Rainy is a great example of that. Johnson, a Pennsylvania native, was a keen fly fisherman. He was also a member both of the Susquehanna Smallmouth Alliance (Cumberland Valley) and Trout Unlimited's Cumberland Valley section. Johnson has been inducted into Pennsylvania Fly Fishing Museum.

Kayla's love for fly fishing

Kayla Ross is an avid adventurer who began her college education at Red Rocks Community College in Denver. She transferred her credits to Colorado Mountain College where she studied sustainability and business. Kayla spent her summer working for the Rocky Mountain Conservancy to improve trails in Fraser and Granby. Kayla graduated and was accepted into Rocky Mountain Land Management Program. This program prepares students in a career with the U.S. Forest Service. The program requires that students learn basic GIS (geographic Information Systems), which is crucial for a successful career in land management.

Derek Olthuis is a fly fishing guide, photographer, videographer, and author from North Western Montana. He is passionate about fly fishing and exploring remote waters. Sharing his passion for fly-fishing with others is what he finds most rewarding, especially with those who want to improve their skills. By teaching people the basics of fly fishing, he hopes to make it easier for them to fish effectively.


Nathan Justice's passion for fly fishing

Nathan Justice is the President of Sal Font Chapter, Trout Unlimited. He shares his passion for fly-fishing with the community. He began fly fishing in 1999 after attending a Boy Scout meeting. He has been hooked on fly fishing since that time. Nathan became interested and a conservation advocate in Natives/Wild Trout in 2008. He is passionate about raising awareness of these species.

Pat's dedication and passion for fly fishing

Pat Dorsey's devotion to fly fishing is what inspires me most. He is a nationally-recognized speaker and flytier who travels the country sharing the passion for the sport. Pat is active in many organizations, including Trout Unlimited. Pat and Kim reside in Parker, Colorado. Kim and Pat lead a yearly trip in the Alaska Sportman's Lodge as well as Rio Manso Lodge.

Live shrimp is the best bait available for freshwater fisherman. Shrimp are cheap, easy to catch and great tasting!

How to Tie a Fishing Lure Like a Pro

The following steps are used to make simple fishing lures with different materials and colors.

Step 1: Cut two pieces of twine about 3/4 inch wide.

Step 2 Fold one twine piece in half.

Step 3 Twist each end together.

Step 4 Wrap the end the second twine piece around the first one so the knot is in the loop.

Step 5 - Pull the loop tight.

Step 6 - Repeat step 4.

Step 7: Use a needle to secure the knot.

Step 8: Trim any excess twine.
